Department of Fine Arts

The department is actively working on the formation and development of the modern Poltava art school. Our students, graduates, teachers are bright and creative individuals who constantly improve their artistic knowledge and skills and enrich the glory of Ukrainian art with their achievements!

The department prepares students in speciaism 023 "Fine art, decorative art, restoration","bachelor" and "master"degrees.

The lecturers of the department in different years were People's Artists of Ukraine Ivan Vitsko (1930 - 2011), Pavlo Volyk (1941 - 2018), Oleksandr Levadnyi (born 1948), Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine Vitalii Hanko (born 1937).

Currently, the department consists of a doctor of cultural studies, a professor, two candidates of art history, one candidate of technical sciences, one associate professor, two senior lecturers. All artists and art critics are with extensive experience. Among the teachers of the department are 5 members of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.

The combination of experience and enthusiasm, creative approaches to art education, constant learning and improvement of knowledge, corresponding to the new challenges of the time, creation of innovative projects and their perfect implementation - the main goal of the department.

Due to the effective support of the university management, the department is actively developing international cooperation with universities in Great Britain, Belgium, Belarus, Georgia, Turkey, Moldova, Poland, China, Latvia, Lithuania, and the USA. Internationalization and dual education programs are being actively implemented.

The university has created a creative artistic space - University Modern Arts Center, which is constantly filled with new life by the efforts of teachers, students and graduates of the department.

 

In 1993-1995, the deanery of the Faculty of Architecture of the Poltava Technical University (now the National Universityv ‘”Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” conducted a thorough analysis and researched the needs of architects and artists of decorative arts in the Poltava Region and the surrounding regions. A conclusion was made about the expediency of opening an art specialty at a technical university. The concept of architectural and artistic education was developed with the close cooperation of educational and scientific institutions, museums, and enterprises. The Rectorate and the Academic Council of the university approved the resolution on the opening of the artistic direction of education at the university.

In May 1995, the university received a license to recruit 25 students majoring in decorative and applied art.

In 1995, for the first time, recruitment was carried out at the university for the specialism "Decorative and Applied Art", specialization "Art Ceramics".

The department of design of architectural environment and fine arts started training specialists in two directions: architectural design and fine arts. By Order No. 86 of July 16, 1998 on structural changes in the university, the section of "decorative and applied art" was reorganized into a separate department of fine arts.

The Department of Fine Arts has trained a large number of highly qualified specialists who continue the glorious traditions of the Poltava Art School both in Ukraine and abroad.

Scientific-methodical and practical seminars on the problems of modern art work at the department; annual scientific conferences, round tables dedicated to the study of the life and work of outstanding artists of the Poltava region, specialists in the field of artistic ceramics are held; the best assets of world art are introduced into the practice of training students. In recent years, the scientific work and international cooperation of the department with teachers of art educational institutions in Georgia, Poland, Turkey, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, Brazil, Belgium, the USA, China and other countries has intensified.

Scientists of the department publish monographs, articles in scientific collections and scientific publications. Only recently, 18 reports have been prepared for scientific conferences of various levels, including 10 with the participation of students. The department has prepared and published 14 methodological instructions on the profile disciplines of the art cycle.

The teachers of the department are highly professional artists of fine art of Ukraine. They actively participate in prestigious art projects of international and all-Ukrainian importance, present artistic works, thematic author's collections of paintings, graphics, sculptures, ceramics in the expositions of numerous group and personal art exhibitions, actively participate in international art projects, plein airs, workshops in different countries of the world. The department is constantly increasing its scientific, pedagogical and creative potential, working to replenish the material and technical base.

The Department's teachers are actively involved in scientific and creative life, they are active participants in international, Ukrainian and regional scientific, practical and creative conferences, plein airs, workshops and symposia. In particular:

On June, 17, National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" hosted the First International Scientific and Practical Conference "Visualization Tools in Contemporary Art", where artists and specialists of state art institutions from Ukraine, the USA, Moldova, Azerbaijan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Poland presented their own works in the field of decorative, fine arts, and ceramics.

The research topics cover the main areas: artistic ceramics: historical, technological, theoretical and regional aspects.

On January 22, 2024, on the Day of Unity of Ukraine, the master's theses of the Department of Fine Arts were defended.

12 students of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" and Myrhorod Mykola Gogol Professional College won the architectural drawing competition "KAP 2021".

The Department is a co-organizer of the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Architecture: Aesthetics + Economics + Ecology" ("Architecture: E + E + E)", an active participant in the organization and holding of ceramics symposia at the National Museum-Reserve of Ukrainian Pottery in Opishne.

For the first time in Poltava, a personal exhibition of the famous Ukrainian artist Oleh Tistol "Tistol-Crimea" opened. The artist spoke about the symbolism of his works and gave a personalized tour. For two months, the Contemporary Art Center of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" will be exhibiting works from the "Ai-Petri" cycle and new works that have not been presented yet.

The Center for Contemporary Art of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" hosted the finale of the exhibition "Timelessness" by artist and kobzar, Associate Professor of Fine Arts of Poltava Polytechnic Nazar Bozhynskyi, which was exhibited as part of the author's art project. Accompanied by the author, the visitors plunged into the world of works created by him over a quarter of a century in various artistic techniques.

On the Day of the Artist of Ukraine, the Center for Contemporary Art of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" hosted the opening of the first solo exhibition of student Valeriia Nosyk, titled "The Art That Saves". The visitors plunged into the inner world and experiences of the artist, who is studying two specialties at once, and felt how art can save in difficult times.

On October, 24, National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" hosted the All-Ukrainian Plein Air "Autumn Sketching" in a mixed format, with more than 150 participants from Poltava, Myrhorod, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Sumy, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Odesa, Chernivtsi. University open-air auditoriums became the main location for the creative competition in two nominations: "Moments of an Autumn Day" and "Autumn Bouquet."
